Did You Know....

..... the highest selling Christmas song EVER is White Christmas?

..... the first country to use the tradition of the Christmas tree was Germany?

..... the Buche de Noel (a delicious confection of chocolate cake and rich pastry cream rolled into the shape of a log) symbolizes the belief that a large log should burn continuously on Christmas night? The next morning the ashes are scooped up and kept as a good luck charm to heal sickness, bring on needed rain and guarantee success in business.

Kitchen Spotlight

This month our spotlight is on the kitchen. Seth Shaw, our American man (from Lincoln, Maine), has accomplished a lot in his 24 years. Seth started out helping his grandfather make chowder for competitions – that lit the fire for Seth’s passion to cook. After attending a culinary class at a local community college, Seth worked at the “River Drivers” restaurant. He decided to continue his education, move to PEI and attend the Culinary Institute. Seth is Chef Shirl’s right-hand man, second in command, and very capable of the role. He is smart, smiley, witty and has a dry sense of humor. That is why we love him!!

Local Supplier Spotlight

Mickey Rose, besides being our most handsome supplier, is also the supplier of the best, freshest seafood around. Mickey has had years of education and experience in the industry and it shows in his quality products. He is focused on “bucking the common distribution chain of too many hands, and work directly with the fishers and producers”. You can spot the MR Seafood trucks motoring across PEI or you can find the crew at the Farmer’s Market in Charlottetown on Saturdays. If you want some of the wonderful seafood Mickey has to offer, pop by their retail store at 26 Thompson Drive in Charlottetown or visit their website www.mrseafoods.com.
